I'm Jeff Yaus, a UX engineer and Web accessibility specialist.
I've been working in the user experience space for nearly three decades, bridging development and design with a cross-disclipinary approach. I've worked for both billion-dollar companies and small start-ups, in industries from e-commerce to finance to entertainment. For the last decade, my focus has been building (and evangelizing) design systems as the ideal collaborative tool between engineering and design — a shared language that accelerates both sides' productivity, and which promotes UX consistency and enhanced brand identity. Most recently, that means I've been a major contributor to the SWAN design system, and I am the creator of the Haupia component library and the lei-carousel React component.
Since 2016 I've been passionately involved in Web accessibility, and
in making the Web usable by anyone — on any browser, device, or
assistive technology. I am a certified
Web Accessibility Specialist
in the
International Association of Accessibility Professionals, and I've led accessibility initiatives, collaborating with
developers, designers, consultants, and legal teams to produce
websites that were WCAG-compliant. As a Web accessibility consultant,
I've helped out companies by conducting accessibility audits, then
providing them with the remediation advice and strategy they need to
reach compliance.
